Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 5, 2026

The short version

  • We collect as little as we can: your email address if you subscribe, what you type if you write to us or leave a comment, and basic statistics about visits.
  • We never ask about your health or your diagnosis. You can read and listen to everything here without telling us anything about yourself.
  • We do not sell your information, and our emails carry no tracking pixels.
  • We use Google Analytics to see what gets read and heard, and a Google Ads tag to measure our advertising. Neither is used to build advertising audiences. Both are explained below, along with how to switch them off.
  • You can unsubscribe, see what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it at any time. Write to info@differentatwork.com.

Who we are

Different At Work is a podcast and journal about neurodivergence in the workplace, hosted by Andrew Sanders and Flo LaBrado. It is owned and published by A Sanders, LLC, a company based in Tampa Bay, Florida. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean A Sanders, LLC, and “the site” means differentatwork.com.

This policy covers the site and the Different At Work emails. It does not cover A Sanders, LLC’s other websites or its consulting work.

For anything about your privacy, email info@differentatwork.com. That inbox reaches both of us.

What we collect, and why

When you subscribe by email

We store your email address, which form you signed up from, and the dates you signed up, confirmed, and (if you ever do) unsubscribed. If you subscribed by ticking the box on a comment, we also store the name you gave with that comment.

As a record that the sign-up really happened, we keep a one-way scrambled version (a salted hash) of the internet address it came from. The address itself is not stored in the subscriber list, and the scrambled version cannot be turned back into it.

Signing up is a two-step process. We send one email asking you to confirm, and nothing else happens until you click the link in it. The link works for 48 hours. If you never click it, you are not subscribed, you receive nothing further, and the unconfirmed address is removed from our list after the link expires.

Once you confirm, we use your address for one thing: to email you on days when a new article or episode is published, at most once a day. We keep a simple log of which of those emails were sent to you so that nobody is mailed twice.

Our emails contain no tracking pixels and no tracked links. We do not know whether you opened an email or what you clicked in it.

Every email has an unsubscribe link. When you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you and keep your address marked as unsubscribed, so that it cannot be added back by mistake. If you would rather we erase it completely, tell us and we will.

When you contact us

The contact form asks for your name, your email address, and your message. It sends those to our inbox as an email. The message is not saved in the website’s database. To stop abuse, the site briefly counts how many messages have come from the same internet address and forgets that count after an hour.

People sometimes tell us personal things, such as a diagnosis or a situation with an employer. Please share only what you are comfortable sharing. Your message is read by Andrew and Flo and by nobody else. We may talk on the show about themes that listeners raise, but we will not quote you, name you, or describe you in a way that identifies you unless we have asked you first and you have said yes.

When you leave a comment

We store the name and email address you enter, your comment, the time, your internet (IP) address, and the type of browser you used. Your name and your comment are published on the page. Your email address is never published.

Comments are public and can be read, copied, and indexed by search engines. Think about that before sharing something personal about yourself, and please do not share personal details about anyone else.

We use the IP address and browser details only to catch spam, which we do with our own checks on our own server. We do not send your comment to an outside spam-filtering service, we do not load profile pictures from Gravatar, and we do not set a cookie to remember your details for next time. A first comment is held until one of us approves it.

When you visit

Server logs. Like every website, ours is kept on a web host (Bluehost), and the host’s servers automatically record each request: IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time. We use these records only to keep the site running and secure.

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which articles and episodes people find useful. It records the pages you view, roughly where you are (country and city, worked out from your IP address), the kind of device and browser you use, and the site that referred you. It uses cookies to tell one visitor from another. We see totals and trends, not individuals.

Google Ads. We advertise the podcast on Google. A Google Ads tag on the site tells us whether those ads bring people here. It sets a cookie and sends Google information about your visit, including the address of the page you are on, which Google handles under its own policies. We have switched off the tag’s advertising-personalization features: visiting this site does not add you to an advertising audience, and we do not use what you read or listen to here to aim ads at you. We do not give Google your name, your email address, or anything you write to us.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. For visitors in these places, the Google tags are set to run without analytics or advertising cookies.

Podcast audio. Our audio files are hosted by Castos. When a page with an audio player loads, or when you play or download an episode, your browser fetches the audio from Castos, which receives your IP address and browser type and counts the download. If you listen in an app such as Apple Podcasts or Spotify, that company’s privacy policy applies to your listening there.

The accessibility toolbar. The site offers an optional toolbar (OneTap) for adjusting things like text size and contrast. It runs from our own server and remembers your settings in your browser. It does not send them to us.

Cookies and things stored in your browser

  • daw_sub_seen (cookie, set by this site). Remembers that you closed the subscribe pop-up, or subscribed, so that we do not show it to you again. Lasts 90 days after you close it, or 10 years after you choose “Don’t show this again” or subscribe.
  • _ga and _ga_… (cookies, set by Google Analytics). Tell one visitor from another for visit statistics. Last up to 2 years.
  • _gcl_au, _gcl_aw, and _gcl_ls (cookies and browser storage, set by Google Ads). Measure whether our ads lead to visits. Last about 90 days.
  • differentatwork-theme, daw-motion, and daw-hero-motion (browser storage, set by this site). Remember your light or dark color choice and whether you paused animations. They never leave your browser, and they last until you clear your browser data.
  • onetap-accessibility-free (browser storage, set by the accessibility toolbar). Remembers your toolbar settings. It never leaves your browser, and it lasts until you clear your browser data.
  • wordpress_… and wp-settings-… (cookies, set by this site). Used only when one of us signs in to edit the site. Last up to 2 weeks.

Switching analytics and advertising off

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings. The site works without them.
  • Install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Turn off personalized advertising in Google’s My Ad Center.
  • Use a browser or extension that blocks trackers. Nothing on the site depends on them.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal. The Google tags on this site do not currently change what they do in response to those signals, so please use one of the options above.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not give or rent our subscriber list to anyone.

We rely on a small number of companies to run the site. Each one handles only what it needs to do its job:

  • Bluehost hosts the website and its database, including the subscriber list and comments.
  • Microsoft (Microsoft 365) delivers the emails the site sends and provides our inbox.
  • Google provides the analytics and the advertising tag described above.
  • Castos hosts and delivers the podcast audio.

The only information that goes to an advertising company is what the Google tags described above collect.

We would also disclose information if the law required it, or if it were necessary to protect someone’s safety or our legal rights. If Different At Work were ever handed over to someone else to run, the subscriber list would go with it only on the terms of this policy, and we would tell subscribers first.

Sensitive information

This site is about neurodivergence, and for many people that is a health matter. We do not ask you for health information, and we do not want it in order to run the site. If you choose to tell us something about your health in a message, we use it only to understand and answer you, and we treat it as confidential in the way described under When you contact us.

How long we keep things

  • A confirmed subscription: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only your address and the fact that you unsubscribed, until you ask us to erase it.
  • An unconfirmed sign-up: removed after the 48-hour confirmation link expires.
  • Messages you send us: kept in our inbox for as long as we need them to reply and to keep a record of the conversation. Ask and we will delete yours.
  • Comments: kept for as long as the article or episode stays online, or until you ask us to remove yours.
  • Analytics: Google keeps visit data for 14 months or less, depending on the retention setting on our account.
  • Server logs: kept by our host according to its own retention schedule.

How we protect it

The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. The subscriber list is stored in our own database rather than with a marketing company, the links in our confirmation emails are stored only in scrambled form, and only the people who run the site can sign in to it. No website can promise perfect security, but we collect little so that there is little to lose.

Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct it;
  • delete it;
  • stop emailing you.

Email info@differentatwork.com from the address concerned. We will answer within 30 days, we will not charge you, and we will not treat you any differently for asking.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the law also asks us to say on what basis we use your information. We send you email because you consented by confirming your subscription, and you can withdraw that consent at any time. We answer messages, publish and moderate comments, keep the site secure, and measure how it is used because we have a legitimate interest in running a useful, safe publication. You have the right to object to that use, to ask us to restrict it, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

If you are in the United States, several states give residents rights to access, correct, and delete personal information and to opt out of its sale or its use for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. To switch off the measurement tags altogether, use the options under Switching analytics and advertising off, or write to us.

Where your information is kept. We are based in the United States, and so are the companies we use. If you contact or subscribe to us from another country, your information will be stored and handled in the United States.

Children

Different At Work is written for adults in the working world. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

We link to podcast apps, to the organizations on our Resources page, and to other writing. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for what they do.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will change the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we already hold, we will post a notice on the site before it takes effect.
